I remember when I was a kid, my uncle who just came back from a trip to China dropped by our house to give us some candies he bought there. The candies are soft and chewy, and I thought the brown ones are chocolate. They're not. They are made of beans. Imagine the weird taste and feeling of disappointment at the same time.
I had a similar experience with dried apples. Figured they'd be like raisins, but apparently there more for baking.
