The Middle Ages were a time
of religious pilgrimage, and an era that proclaimed Jerusalem as the center of the universe. Wealthy Christians were required to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, but if you couldn't there was another way to make the journey. Read about it (here).
Wow. That's really interesting. First blog read of the morning and I learned something. Great way to start the day. Thanks!
ReplyDeletei have walked a labyrinth before and it is a truly spiritual experience...
ReplyDeletei wonder if we did take pilgrimages these days if our spiritual lives
would not be better....the walking becomes a meditation in and of itself...
As with Brian, I have walked a labyrinth and found it very spiritually fulfilling. It's an odd sort of experience, especially for an egomaniacal narcissist such as myself. Initially, I wondered what everyone else nearby would think of me making little steps and walking in semi-circles, but it soon became a matter of me focusing on my inner being and connecting with my God. I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI know a few people who loved talking or even just thinking about visiting Jerusalem.
ReplyDeleteI'm like, I'd rather avoid that whole region of the world all-together.
